Instead of making my own, I purchased this because of the lower price, adjustable height, low weight, quick set-up, and easy storage. It was delivered well packaged and directions (along with their video) made assembly fairly straightforward. To date I’ve only flattened one 8 foot slab. I took the time to make a base out of 2x4s and use sawhorses. The router plate didn’t fit my Bosch router so I had to drill holes. It did as advertised.
My disappointments are the slight flexing of the aluminum extrusions while routing, and the amount of sawdust build-up under the wheels. I’m hoping to improve on this. I did use compressed air often. Overall, it meets expectations for an entry-level sled.
Four stars
I had hand surgery right after I ordered the fly cutter so I haven't been able to use it just yet. But the balance and the way it was designed I think it will work good. Here in about 2 weeks I'll be able to try it and will add to this review.
The price and delivery were good. I used this bit on my small CNC to surface some ash slabs about 2' x 2' x 4" thick that were chainsaw cut. I was not cutting end grain. It worked very well at 18k, 0.10 deep with 24% stepover. After cutting 4 of these faces I could tell the cutter was probably dulling a little because there was more heat in the cut. I did clean the carbide cutter surfaces after each cut. I would purchase this bit again.
