The SpeTool S01002 Dust Collection Shroud is specifically designed for the S01001 Router Sled, focusing on enhancing the cleanliness and safety of your workspace, particularly in managing wood dust's impact on health.
Key features:
Health Protection: Wood dust poses potential risks to respiratory health. This dust collection shroud features an efficient dust brush that captures 90% of wood particles, directing them into a dust collection system. This significantly reduces the inhalation of harmful particles, providing a cleaner, healthier working environment.
Equipment Compatibility: The shroud is equipped with an acrylic plate and a 2-1/2" dust port, compatible with most routers and standard dust collection systems, making it an ideal upgrade for your S01001 Router Sled.
Easy Installation and Use: Assembly takes just a few minutes, and the quick-release bolt design ensures easy and secure positioning.
Smooth Operation: The addition of tape at the connection point between the guide rail and the dust collection device minimizes friction during sliding, ensuring smooth operation of the router.
Sturdy and Lightweight: Constructed from aluminum, this shroud is both durable and lightweight, making it easy to handle. The inlaid frame and plate design ensures a tight seal, effectively preventing dust from escaping and keeping your workspace clean.
Frequently Asked Questions
This is a common scenario. You will need a reducing adapter (e.g., 4" to 2-½"). It's crucial to ensure the adapter connection is tight and sealed to maintain strong suction. Measure your vacuum hose's inner diameter precisely before purchasing an adapter for the best fit.
The 90% capture rate is achieved under ideal testing conditions with a sufficient vacuum source (around 350 CFM)
. Real-world performance depends heavily on your dust extractor's power and suction, hose seal integrity, and the material being milled. While it significantly reduces airborne dust, no system captures 100%. For best results, use a high-CFM dust extractor and ensure all connections are airtight.
The 6061-T6 aluminum construction is chosen for a balance of durability and lightweight performance
. It is robust enough for the demands of slab flattening. However, like any precision tool, it should be handled with care. Severe impacts could potentially damage the mount or alignment.
during use?
1. Check Your Vacuum: First, ensure your dust extractor isn't full, the filter isn't clogged, and it's running at full power.
2. Check for Clogs: Clear any debris blockage from the hose or at the shroud's port.
3. Inspect for Leaks: Look for any loose connections, cracks, or dislodged seals (especially the rubber ring) that could be leaking air.
Yes, it is designed to handle dust from various materials including hardwoods, softwoods, and composites like MDF
. However, note that MDF and epoxy dust can be very fine. Ensure your dust extractor has a high-quality HEPA filter to capture these fine particles and prevent them from exhausting back into the air.
overall the unit works well to help reduce sawdust. I have used for 3-4 hrs and already the plastic dust nozzle used for connecting your vacuum has already broken right at the seam on the base. It is made with foam core ABS which is not as strong as solid core ABS. I have tried to use epoxy to fix but will have to see if it holds. I can't find anywhere on the website to be able to request a replacement part. Aside from that I'm happy with the unit

Dust collection is a bonus
I added this dust collection router sled to the basic set of rails. It does a pretty good job of collecting the dust and keeping the mess contained. But the Plexiglass is too high above the rails and really doesn’t work well with the bit reaching the wood. With the bit and router that I have there is a lot of friction at certain points in the milling process. Sometimes the rails are rubbing on the wood, and the brushes are completely squished horizontal. It is frustrating to use it like this. I may put a sacrificial piece of plexiglass in the slot and offset the router an inch below that in order to make it usable.

Game changer
Was about to build my own dust collector but thought better of it when saw the SpeTool router sled already had a solution. Night and day difference even though I use a standard shop vac. Made clean up a breeze.

These clamps work as advertised. They keep everything perfectly flat and straight. Glue cleans off the clamps easily. Much easier to use than parallel clamps
