An excellent solution to Slab flattening. Many other jigs limit you to 8 feet. I really like that this jig has an unlimited length, and and for a fraction of the price of other makers.
I learned about this bit from a shop where they build large high end tables. I was getting tare out on my guitar bodies and one of the craftsmen gave me a routing lesson. He then told me about the game changer bit he uses and brought the box down from the shrine where it resides. This is a smaller version of that bit. He told me it has saved him from the nightmares of traditional bits and tareout. This bit is amazing and I wish I knew about it years ago. Do yourself a favor and get 10 of these incase they disappear
This bit does the job but it doesn’t eliminate the danger of template routing. Sometimes with some wood types it is crucial to properly read the grain. If you don’t read it correctly you will know, so always be prepared. Even if you are only removing 1/16” of material, going against the grain or across end grain will grab your work piece. However if you ease into the cut going with the grain it will leave you with a nice clean. There will be a line in the wood where the up cut and down cut meet, so additional sanding or scraping will be needed.
