This lift is easy to install especially with the included acrylic templates. The operation of the lift is smooth and very accurate. Love it!

I have a drill press in my shop which is what I use most the time when I need a Precision hole drilled. But sometimes I need to drill a whole spot on and perfectly Square with my workpiece and it's not small enough piece I can fit into my drill press. That's when a portable drill guide is Handy. I've had one for years made by General tools. It's relatively inexpensive and not very precise. In the pictures of included I put it next to this SpeTool portable drill bit guide for comparison. The general tool drill guide is gray. It has a very small Chuck on it.
As you can see in the photos the orange SpeTool Drill Guide is much heftier with a better polished finish . It is more precise and can be more precisely adjusted to your needs. I found it to operate more smoothly and it can handle a larger size bit. Of course it is considerably more expensive, but not as expensive as most of the competing high end portable drill guides on the market. I would recommend this for any shop.
I resisted getting one of these for quite a long while, but finally had a need for one that no other tool or technique could fulfill. I decided I'd go ahead and get a very high quality unit and my modest amount of research showed this one to be a solid choice. The construction and design seem very solid. It doesn't look to me like there are any major corners that ever been cut. The operation is simple, smooth, and consistent, and it does exactly what I need it to do, with accuracy. I got the fixed 90-degree version to save a bit of money, and because I've never run into a scenario where I'd need to drill at an angle using a device like this. If that need ever arises, I'll change my design.
The thing is pretty expensive for what you get, so one star off for value maybe not being great. I get that quality and precision costs, but I have tools of similar level that don't proportionately cost this much. I was willing to pay, however, to avoid cursing the shortcomings of one that costs 50 bucks. I've learned the hard way, many times, to always buy the best tool you can possibly afford.
I also liked that this came with the guide. For my particular application, that piece is essential.
So, overall, yes I'd recommend this one.
