Do I need to drill holes in my workbench to use the SpeTool clamping dogs?

🔍 If you’re using them on a router sled setup, typically you’ll have a spoilboard or plywood base beneath the slab that you don’t mind screwing into – that’s where you’d attach the dogs. They have screw holes for mounting. If you want to use them on a regular workbench, you would either need to have holes or T-tracks to bolt them down, or some people mount them to a sacrificial board and clamp that to the bench. They’re intended to be used with screws driven through the dog into a wood base. On the SpeTool sled, often users attach a sheet of MDF as a bottom board, and then screw the dogs into that around the slab. So yes, you’ll be making screw holes wherever you mount them – but usually in a replaceable board. The holes are a small price for rock-solid holding power. If you prefer not to mar your workbench, use a dedicated base board for flattening operations.
