🔍 It’s normal to see faint lines where each pass of the surfacing bit overlapped. To minimize ridges: ensure your router or CNC is perfectly level relative to the workpiece (any tilt can cause ridges). Also use a proper **step-over** – typically about 50-75% of the bit’s diameter – so passes overlap enough. If ridges are very small, you can often sand them out with a sander. For an even finer finish, some woodworkers do a very shallow final pass (like 0.010\" depth) with the surfacing bit over the entire surface to “skim cut” away any high lines. Using a **2+2 flute** insert bit can help too, because the scoring cutters trim fibers between passes more cleanly. But some light sanding after surfacing is common – the goal is to have only minimal ridges that are easy to sand away.
