Like any tool, a lot depends on how you intend to use it and what your expectations are. I've owned my Festool track saw for about 20 years and I've used it in many different circumstances. I ordered this track saw square out of curiousity because I don't have something similar. The tool itself is very nicely made (as other products I've gotten from SpeTool have been). It's a high quality item, and it fits the track exactly as intended and is square when checked with a Starrett combo square. I have not yet checked it across a longer cut, but I will do a 3'x4'x5' triangle next time I'm cutting sheet goods to see how close it is. I like that it has a considerable amount of surface to register your material against. I will point out, however, that the angle of the track is not adjustable. If it's right, it's right, but if it's not'well I guess you could shim it. With all that said, if you are using your track saw to make a lot of repetitive cuts at right angles to an already straight edge, this tool might be handy for you. I personally use my track saw mostly for long straight ripping cuts and for rough breakdown of sheet goods before I cut them to size on my sliding table saw. For me, the usefulness I would get out of it would not justify the high price. Honestly, except for the fact that it is marketed for other extremely expensive tools, Im not sure why this item would cost as much as its being sold for.
I will take this out onto my off-grid construction site and see if it makes me love it more out in the field than I do in my shop. Other folks may absolutely love this thing and find it to be totally worth it. For me, I admire the quality of the tool and its a nice to have, but not an essential at this price.
I had never heard from this brand before and was excited to try this new square guide for my track saw. I was very pleased when I opened it and saw how large it was. Much longer than my previous one this is really well made. Love the orange anodized aluminum and how easy it is to slide on and off your tracks. Super simple just loosen the two thumb screws and slide it under your tracks tighten and flip the spring tensioned lever over and it's super secure and not a mm of play when fully tightened down. I also love that they included the little lip on top at the very end which makes it so you can rest that lip on top of the workpiece so you know you are sitting flush. Super easy to slide up and down to better position your tracks tighten before you mak3 the cut. It even has little finger grooves on each side which makes it super comfortable to grab and handle while using. Not the most important thing is that it's PERFECTLY square! I used it with my Milwaukee tracks and my set of Wen tracks and it swapped between the two as if they were both the same. Super lightweight yet solid and obviously designed by someone who really knows how to make the subtle differences that can turn something from good to excellent. I do believe this is an excellent tool and anyone who breaks down large pieces of plywood regularly can absolutely benefit from owning this. It rival a few of the other super expensive track squares that cost triple the price of this one. Really happy with it and am not just looking for any reason to make some cuts with it. Nothing is better than having a new tool that makes the thing you love to do more precise an simple at the same time. Highly recommend!
SpeTool 90 Degrees Precision Track Saw Square --- Really nice and impressive track saw square here. As it should be at over $150. It is however a nice square, works well and has a smooth high quality finish. All edges are rounded over, soft to the touch and it just gives the impression of a quality tool. No gleaming flaws or short cuts to see here it looks like they were trying to make a quality product worth its price.
I do have to admit.. my first thought when seeing its listed price (at time of my order) of 169.99 was... has SpeTool really made a big enough name to command a price within $15 dollars or so of the almighty bright blue TSO version with its immediately recognized "V" shape that's bragged about on all the YouTube channels? That said, to my experience so far, it seems it probably does anything that other color tool does.. although I don't have any experience with TSO to be honest. I can say this SpeTool version works very, very well.
I must say the first immediate impression it made on me (outside of nice finish and good looks) was how easy it was to use.. which is probably truly the biggest selling point besides accuracy. Although Accuracy was the second big feature noticed, simply as that's the order they're revealed as you put this tool into use.
So to use it, just reach underneath and loosen the two big knurled **** and the spring loaded track bar just moves up into position. I liked that these knurled **** were big enough to get a hold of without being too oversized.. perfect size. Anyway.. make sure the black cam-lever in the center is in the open position, slide the now ready track bar into the track, reach back under and tighten the two **** then swing the cam-lever closed. Done.. simple, quick and easy. There appears to be adjustability to the cam-lock with two slot head screws but to my experience it worked perfect out of the box. You can see the cam-lock is closing off all extra tolerances in as the squares shape perfectly mates to the track but it doesn't really take any force it just swings around in place and the connection is rock solid with a dead 90 when checked with a square. Also as seen in my pics there's cut-outs on the underside to provide space for your track clamps.
For what it's worth I'm using this for now with an economical pair of Wen tracks and a Milwaukee track saw. This is designed for the basic universal tracks such as Milwaukee, Festool, Makita, PowerTec and Wen. I know DeWalt, Ridgid and Kreg have their own propriatary tracks.
There's a big difference between this full size track square and the small compact cheaper squares I've been using. I'm not sure what this tools value should be or what you may think its worth to you but I am sure it seems to work great and I'm certainly glad to have it. 5-Stars for quality, ease of use and performance.
The cutter head comes nicely packaged, with each little cutter blade in its own slot in the plastic containers. Also helpfully comesd with a tool and bit for installing the cutters. It is heavy and solid and has very high quality feel. I did have an issue in that one of the holes for the screws whcih hold the cuters was improperly threaded. Coudl nto get it to go in flush after much effort. That was frustrating. But I wrote to their customer service email address and within 48 hours they had responded and they already had a replacement head on the way. INstallation was a bit tricky -- at least for me -- and make sure to review teh whole video before doing anything, as I installed all of the cutters and then had to remove them to get the tool in. But all in all, very happy with it so far. Workds great and produces smooth wood requiring littel sanding.
