Can I use a surfacing bit on epoxy or resin surfaces (like in a river table)?

🔍 Yes, surfacing bits can be used on epoxy resin pours (such as river tables) to level them flush with the wood. In fact, using a router surfacing bit is one of the best ways to flatten a resin-wood table before final sanding. A couple of tips: epoxy is harder on bits than wood, so make sure your bit is sharp (dull bits might heat up the resin). Take very shallow passes to avoid chipping the resin – epoxy can be brittle depending on the type. Also, the router speed might need to be a bit lower to prevent melting or gumming. But overall, a carbide surfacing bit will cut through cured resin without issue, leaving a surface that just needs finish sanding. Many makers do an initial flattening of their epoxy tables with a SpeTool (or similar) surfacing bit, then sand and polish to full clarity.
