Do I need special templates for creating inlays with this kit?

🔍 You will need a **template** for whatever shape you want to inlay – that’s what the router follows. Many woodworkers either buy ready-made templates (like letters, numbers, butterfly/bowtie shapes, decorative patterns) or create their own. Templates can be made of thin plywood, acrylic, or even hardboard, as long as they have a clean cut-out of the shape. The key is that the template opening accommodates the guide bushing. If you’re making your own, you’d typically use a jig saw, scroll saw, or laser/CNC to cut the shape out. One nice thing: because the kit’s collar creates the offset automatically, you don’t have to compensate in your template – just make the template the exact size of the desired inlay. So yes, you do need templates, but they can be purchased or homemade. The kit doesn’t include specific templates since everyone might want different designs, but once you have the kit you can do infinite shapes by swapping out templates.
