Can I use a V-bit to chamfer edges or do I need a special chamfer bit?

🔍 You can absolutely use a standard V-bit to chamfer edges. In fact, a 90° V-bit is essentially the same as a 45° chamfer bit (since a 90° included angle bit gives you a 45° bevel when applied to an edge). Many woodworkers chuck a V-bit in the router table to put a quick bevel on a piece of wood. The only considerations: V-bits usually don’t have a bearing, so if you’re doing it freehand you’ll need to use the router table fence or a jig to get a consistent chamfer. But on a CNC or with a router table fence, it’s straightforward. SpeTool V-bits can be used for chamfering just fine. If you were doing tons of edge bevels with a handheld router, you might prefer a dedicated chamfer bit with a bearing for ease. But functionally, they do the same thing. So yes – your SpeTool V-bit is a multi-tasker: engrave designs one minute, chamfer board edges the next!
