Premium carbide compression flush-trim bit pairs top & bottom bearings with a ½″ cutting diameter on a ¼″ shank. The 1¼″ cutting length shears fibers inward, leaving splinter-free template edges in plywood, laminates and hardwood. Industrial grind and coating maximize sharpness and chip evacuation for longer, cooler cuts.

Overview

SpeTool’s W07023 delivers cabinet-maker precision in a single pass. Its compression spiral starts with an up-cut tip that lifts waste, followed by down-cut flutes that press fibers back, guaranteeing crisp faces on veneered plywood and solid wood alike. Dual bearings at the nose and shank let you ride either top or bottom templates—ideal for intricate pattern routing, edge flushing or laminate trimming. The micro-grain carbide edge stays keen under production loads, while the ¼-inch shank drops into compact or table routers without collet adapters. Sized at ½″ diameter × 1¼″ cutting length × 3¼″ overall, W07023 is the versatile, finish-grade choice for pro shops and DIYers.

Frequently Asked Questions

½″ cutting dia × 1 ¼″ cutting length × 3 ¼″ overall, ¼″ shank, top and bottom bearings.

Up-cut flutes at the tip and down-cut flutes above pull fibers toward the core, almost eliminating tear-out on both faces of plywood or hardwood.

You can run the template on either the top or bottom without flipping the work-piece, perfect for nested parts or tricky grain direction.

Designed for particle-board, MDF, melamine, laminate, plywood and solid wood—basically any sheet good or hardwood up to its 1 ¼″ flute length.

Any handheld, table or CNC router that accepts a ¼″ collet—users report success on trim routers like the Makita RT0701C and mid-size Bosch 1617EVS.

Yes—the compression shear leaves both faces crisp, so most users jump straight to 150-grit finish sanding.

Whiteside’s ½″-shank Ultimate costs ~$130 and uses a larger body; SpeTool delivers similar compression geometry on a lighter ¼″ shank at about one-third the price.

Take multiple shallow passes, keep firm router control, and reduce RPM slightly—common advice from experienced pattern routers on woodworking forums.

Woodcademy’s test noted SpeTool spirals stayed keen after hours of template routing, matching pricier U.S. brands.

Yes—SpeTool lists shorter 1″ and longer 1 3⁄4″ compression flush-trim models (e.g., W07024, W07026) with the same dual-bearing design.

The bit to use for router templates

I've been using a flush trim bit for routing with a template and I was getting tear outs and kick backs. Used this bit for the first time to route 10 pieces and no tear out or kick backs. Highly recommend over using the standard flush trim bit when routing with templates.

Preforms really well

I've run plywood and maple through this bit. It handled both materials without any issues. This was done on a table router. Left smooth finishes on both pieces. Very sharp router bit.
