Frequently Asked Questions

A point round-over router bit features a sharp tip and rounded edge designed to create smooth, concave transitions on edges—ideal for detailed rounding tasks.

A 1/4" radius is the most commonly used and versatile round-over size. For lighter edge easing, 1/8" works well. Popular brands include SpeTool, Woodcraft, and Whiteside.

“Round over bit with a point” is preferred when using a CNC since bits with bearings can pose safety risks. Point designs are safer for CNC use.

Yes, but be cautious. When using a trim router, some users ask whether to eye-ball the bit height due to its curve—it’s better to measure precisely.

Yes. Standard round-over bits have a true radius. Laminate bits have a flat rake and off-set flat section, making them different in profile.

Clamp a scrap piece of wood along the workpiece to guide the bearing safely—especially important when using router tables or freehand techniques.

It’s possible, but mounting the bit on a router table or using guides ensures more precise and safer operation, especially with edge rounding.

Round over without bearing!

I love this bit! it works great for all kinds of applications where you could never get this level of detail using a round over bit with a bearing. You can use this to carve a radius on letters without tedious 3D cutting! I only wish they had one just like it that came with an 1/8" radius.
