ATS-coated, 2+2 insert surfacing bit rapidly planes slabs and spoilboards with a 1.25-inch cutting diameter on a ¼-inch shank. Four-edge 10 × 10 × 2.2 mm carbide inserts rotate for extended life, while up-shear scorers leave an ultra-smooth bottom surface across wood, MDF, laminate, and plastic. Overall length: 50 mm, for high CNC productivity.

Product Description

Engineered for rapid spoilboard leveling and slab flattening, the SpeTool W05004 pairs a 1.25-inch cutting diameter with a vibration-taming 2+2 insert head. Two main cutters hog material, while twin up-shear scorers polish the surface—so sanding starts finer. Each 10 × 10 × 2.2 mm micro-grain carbide knife offers four sharp edges and locks under Torx screws; flip or replace only the insert, not the body. An ATS coating shields the carbide from heat, extending edge life up to 2 ×. The compact 50 mm body fits palm, plunge, or CNC routers with a standard ¼-inch collet, bringing big-bit performance to small-shank machines. Ideal for hardwood, plywood, MDF, plastic, and laminate projects alike.

Frequently Asked Questions

Two cutters shear and two scrape, giving four active edges for faster stock removal and a cleaner finish in one pass.

Yes—each square insert has four edges; loosen the Torx screw, rotate to a fresh edge, retighten, and keep cutting.

Owners report roughly twice the life of un-coated bits before the first rotation is needed, thanks to the anti-abrasion ATS layer.

The shank is ¼″, so it drops straight into any router or CNC with a ¼″ collet—including compact palm routers.

Yes—users flatten epoxy tables on a Bosch 1617 (2¼ HP) without bog-downs, provided RPM is kept below 18 k.

Verified buyers flatten walnut, cherry, and epoxy-river slabs cleanly with minimal tear-out.

Yes—10 × 10 × 2.2 mm ATS-coated inserts are sold separately under O01002 and O01008.

A standard T15 Torx key fits the insert screws (included in the box).

Softwood, hardwood, plywood, MDF, laminate, and composite boards—all called out in the product spec.

1-¼ Surfacing and Rabbeting flycutter

This tool cuts great in walnut and maple stock. No burning and is very fast. It leaves a very smooth surface.

It does cut good other than ripping the wood.

The flat bit rips the wood somewhat.

This is a nice tool

For slab or wasteboard flattening on Cnc. Have been happy with the finish I’ve been getting.

Works well on wood. Not so well on rocks.

Works fine. Leaves a reasonably smooth milled finish, easy to sand to finished smoothness. Cutters last well and new faces align perfectly, leaving the same reasonably smooth milled finish.

Don't run into that rock that the tree incorporated into its trunk. Wish Amazon sold a rock detector. But the replacement bit worked just as well as the first one. This was a good purchase.
