Frequently Asked Questions

Designed for leveling and cleaning the sacrificial spoilboard on CNC tables or router sleds. Wide diameter and multiple flutes ensure efficient flattening.

A ½" shank offers greater rigidity and less vibration compared to thinner shanks.

Replaceable insert bits (like Amana's with 4-sided knives) offer better longevity—cheaper over time versus replacing entire bits.

Absolutely—surfacing bits perform flat surfacing much faster than small end mills, significantly reducing runtimes.

Yes—but may still require sanding afterward for full smoothness.

Community reports describe dust clouds on “cosmic scales”—strong dust collection is essential.

Routers with 2¼ HP+, ½" collet, variable speed, and soft start are preferred. Examples: Porter-Cable 890, Bosch 1617 EVS.

Some recommend raising spoilboard height or using a shorter sled to compensate.

Yes—take shallow passes, reduce RPM, and keep bit moving to avoid burning.

Use appropriate feed/fine passes and larger diameter bits; users reported no ridges on 5×8’ table using 2.5" bit.

Surprisingly therapeutic

If you've ever flattened stock with a plane (before a planer or jointer) and then you try this...
You'll forget how much work flattening used to be and you'll start building jigs to use this every chance you get.

I'm using it in a Bosch MRC23. It works pretty well. Be careful.

Très large

Permet de de grossir un peut plus rapidement, cependant la profondeur d'attaque doit être contrôler afin de ne pas coince la toupie par prudence.

Wood only

This works well on wood projects but I would not recommend this bit if your rabbiting into Epoxy and wood. Way to aggressive for Epoxy. Sorry, I never took a photo of the damage because it was not a picture I wanted in my portfolio.
