Overview

SpeTool W04004 is your go-to bit for flawless surface quality in sheet goods and solid timber. Its dual-flute, ¼″ diameter down-cut spiral pulls fibers toward the workpiece, protecting delicate veneers while driving chips downward to prevent re-cutting. Precision-ground from micro-grain solid carbide and treated with SpeTool’s wear-resistant SPE-X coating, the cutter stays sharper up to 2× longer than uncoated bits. The standard ¼″ shank seats securely in CNC spindles, plunge routers or trim routers, and the 1″ cutting length with 2½″ overall length makes it versatile for grooves, dados, mortises and pocketing. Upgrade your tooling and enjoy cooler running, cleaner edges and fewer touch-ups.

Frequently Asked Questions

¼″ cutting diameter, ¼″ shank, 1″ cut length, 2 ½″ overall length, two flutes, solid-carbide.

Down-cut flutes push chips downward, keeping the top surface splinter-free—ideal for plywood and veneered panels.

MDF/HDF, soft- & hardwoods, plywood, plastics, foam board—virtually any sheet good up to 1″ thick.

Yes—any handheld, table-mounted or CNC router that accepts a ¼″ collet.

Absolutely—the down-shear action slices fibers cleanly across the veneer face.

SpeTool sells for $14.99 each; a comparable ¼″-shank Ultra-Shear down-cut starts around $29.99, so SpeTool is roughly half the cost.

Yes—users carving 2.7 mm plywood signs report razor-sharp corners and minimal sanding thanks to the down-cut geometry.

Keep depth-of-cut below ~½ × bit Ø, use steady feeds, and slow down at knots—several reviewers broke bits only when pushing feeds too high.

Most owners praise long life for the price, though extremely small or extra-long bits break if forced—“hours on a CNC without problem” is typical.

SpeTool backs the bit with a 365-day warranty on its site and a 30-day no-question Amazon return window.

Very clean cuts

Wow!!! This spiral router bit works great!!! Used it to make circle cut outs for speakers. Very clean cuts. Not sure how long it will stay sharp but if it doesn’t last long, I will update my review.

Works well in hardwoods

I originally bought this to make a pen / pencil holder for my wife, who like to sketch ... it has 204 holes in the top, with matching pockets in the base, and it was made out of white oak ... the bit took care of that task very well (I used a spiral milling method). Then today I used it in purple heart, milling a 3.9" diameter x 0.35" deep pocket that will hold a phone charging pad, and again with very good results. Note: I tend to use conservative feed and speed values ... in this latter case I used about 15000 rpm, 40 ipm, 0.05" depth per pass ... I could definitely have gone faster, but it's not worth it to me to save a few minutes and risk having issues.

Great quality!

I use SpeTool bits all the time with my CNC router. They are great quality and don't dull easily.
